Sleepy Owl Coffee revenue increased 86% to ₹82 crore in FY26 as the company neared break-even.

SUMMARY

The Indian coffee market has seen significant growth, with urban consumers becoming more discoverers of coffee varieties and flavors. While many people chose to buy imported varieties, India is one of the world’s top-five exporters of coffee, exporting about 5% of the total output. This renewed enthusiasm has created a rich ecosystem of locally rooted specialty brands. Sleepy Owl has shown blistering growth, expanding operating revenue by nearly 4 times in 3 years from ₹21.5 crore in FY23 to ₹82 crore in FY26.

Financial performance and operational expenses

Based on annual financial statements obtained from the Registrar of Companies, Sleepy Owl’s revenue from operations jumped 86.4% year-on-year to ₹82 crore in FY26, from ₹44 crore in FY25. The homegrown brand has a strong commitment to the at-home coffee consumption market, and its product offerings are extensive, including cold brew coffee, instant coffee varieties, hot brew bags, ground coffee and ready-to-drink bottled coffee. These core coffee products are sold through pouches, cans, bottles, and boxes, and provide the company with its key revenue stream.

Sleepy Owl’s aggressive scaling had led to increasing expenditure on numerous operational facets during the fiscal year. Coffee bean procurement continued to be among the highest cost heads, representing around 22% of the total expenditure and growing 84.3% to ₹43.5 crore in FY26.

The employee benefit expenses grew to ₹9 crore for the fiscal period. The company spent ₹20 crore on advertising and marketing, while shipping and legal and technology expenses rose to ₹85 crore from ₹47 crore in the previous financial year.

Competitive landscape and improved financial ratios

Despite the higher spend in procurement and operations, Sleepy Owl managed to improve its net loss by 17% to ₹1.76 crore in FY26 from ₹2.12 crore in FY25. The company is now trending close to services break-even profitability with ROCE of -6% and EBITDA margin of -1.8%. From a unit economics perspective, the enterprise incurred a cost of ₹1.04 per rupee of turnover during the fiscal year, indicating a rise in operational efficiency as scale grows.

The capital-intensive model where you can sell coffee from home is difficult, and several companies have already emerged to compete for the coffee-for-at-home market. With ₹82 crore in revenue and on-firm breakeven, Sleepy Owl has hit some positive spots, but the competition is fierce in the specialty coffee space.

However, well-known firms like Blue Tokai and Third Wave survive on a significantly larger scale with revenues of ₹325 crore and ₹285 crore, respectively, and legacy brands like Tata Starbucks and Cafe Coffee Day run at even greater scale, boasting turnover in excess of ₹1000 crore. With the competition rising, Sleepy Owl’s main goal will be to hold on to its momentum and make it to profitability.

Conclusion

The results for fiscal year 2026 reflect the growing acceptance of niche at-home coffee offerings and the steep rise in operating revenue, which increased by 86.4% to ₹82 crore. The company has limited net losses to ₹1.76 crore and is gradually moving towards a break-even situation while simultaneously investing in raw material procurement, marketing and distribution. Despite the strong competition from domestic giants with substantial resources and huge legacy operators, Sleepy Owl’s top-line growth trajectory makes it one of the key players to watch in India’s maturing beverage sector.
