SUMMARY

Praj Industries has officially signed a groundbreaking development and commercialization deal for bio-isobutanol (Bio-IBA) technology in India. This strategic partnership has been made through an agreement with Gevo, a leading developer of renewable technology solutions. The agreement specifies that Praj Industries shall spearhead commercialization of the Bio-IBA technology in the Indian subcontinent. In line with this vast project, the partnership assigns the exclusive rights for placement of this advanced bio-isobutanol technology across the nation to Praj Industries.

Establishment and core focus

The key aspect of this partnership between Praj Industries and Gevo is based on a study of viable commercial bio-IBA projects in the national energy mix. The primary focus of the partnership is the high commercial potential of diesel blending applications.

The addition of Bio-IBA to diesel presents a major opportunity for reducing the overall carbon intensity of diesel. With diesel being one of the most commonly used transport and industrial fuels globally, the transition to a more sustainable energy system, particularly the use of Bio-IBA as an attractive alternative, will be a major step.

Praj Industries is simultaneously working to realize the broader vision of advancing Bio-IBA adoption in India by building the country’s first commercial Bio-IBA demonstration plant. This pioneering demonstration project has been designed with a leading oil marketing company (OMC).

Under this assignment, the entire project is being designed, engineered, supplied, and erected by Praj Industries on Gevo’s licensed Bio-IBA technology platform. The commercial demonstration plant is expected to be a key and pivotal part of the bio-isobutanol national rollout strategy.

The demonstration facility will proactively operationalize the entire production process, set the training routes for the operation chains, and create the pathways for market development activities. The operational validations are positioned to be crucial for unlocking future avenues of mass-scale commercialization in India in the near term.

Core operations and financial performance

Bio-IBA technology offers an extraordinary technical solution for significantly reducing the carbon intensity of the emissions from conventional diesel consumption in various key industries. Potential uses for Bio-IBA blended fuel encompass all major modes of transport, agriculture, heavy mining operations, construction work, and various industrial facilities.

The transition to lower carbon fuels can be achieved through a key structural element that can be realised in India with the use of Bio-IBA, given the size of a diesel-dependent economy and the presence of huge amounts of renewable feedstocks.

Praj Industries has a diversified corporate footprint across 3 core businesses including bioenergy, hi-purity systems and core engineering solutions, and is shipping products and solutions all over the globe every day.

The bioenergy division is specifically devoted to process design, technical engineering, equipment fabrication, and complete commissioning of ethanol plants.

The hi-purity systems division focuses on providing advanced technical solutions designed exclusively for demanding process applications in a range of specialty areas.

The main engineering business segment includes advanced water and wastewater treatment plants and systems, critical process engineering solutions, brewery plants and equipment; and provides services to key industries like oil & gas, petrochemicals, fermentation, fertilizers, general chemicals, and brewing business.

Praj Industries also had impressive performance metrics in recent quarterly financial statements from a financial point of view. When compared with the respective Q1 FY26 period, the consolidated net profit of the company grew 117.42% to ₹11.61 crore during Q1 FY27.

The net profitability has improved by a significant margin, with total operational revenue reaching ₹715.82 crore for the quarter, which is 11.81% higher than the previous year’s value. Following the wider market turnover, Praj Industries’ shares closed at ₹314.15 on the BSE, down 1.20% from the previous day.

Conclusion

This development and commercialization agreement between Praj Industries and Gevo for Bio-IBA technology is a defining leap in the path of a sustainable fuel future in India. The collaboration leverage Gevo’s licensed technology and Praj’s in-depth market knowledge and engineering skills, aimed at the essential needs to decarbonize the country’s vast diesel-heavy industry.

Praj Industries is positioned to lead the adoption of the first commercial Bio-IBA demonstration plant while the corporate financial momentum builds to support the transition toward cleaner fuel alternatives.
