SUMMARY

Google Cloud has appointed Amit Kumar as the interim head of its India business after the exit of CEO Sashikumar Sreedharan. Sreedharan has announced his resignation from the technology giant in pursuit of an external job opportunity. The leadership change was officially announced by the President of APAC at Google Cloud, Karan Bajwa. In the announcement of the executive leadership reshuffle, Bajwa said that the company’s momentum in India is strong and largely stems from India’s significant enterprise business growth and artificial intelligence adoption.

Career background and outgoing managing director tenure

Sashikumar Sreedharan has served as the Managing Director of Google Cloud India since July 2025. He also held the position of Chief Operating Officer for the Asia Pacific region of Google Cloud for approximately 2 years before assuming overall responsibility for the India business operations. Sreedharan worked for Google Cloud for approximately 3 years in total before resigning from his leadership role at the company.

After leaving a major corporate giant, Sreedharan is ready to move into a major new job in India’s growing AI industry. As reported by the Times of India, Sreedharan is scheduled to become the President and Chief Business Officer of the homegrown artificial intelligence unicorn, Sarvam AI, where he will be managing its business endeavors.

Amit Kumar, a long-time Google Cloud India associate with more than five years of service, will assume interim leadership of the India region. Previously, Kumar was the Managing Director of the company’s Digital Natives business in India, where he has worked closely with digital native companies and expanding startups across the country.

Kumar was formerly a Sales Director at Google Cloud, where he spent nearly a year as the head of its Digital Natives business unit. He previously served as Country Sales Manager, Enterprise and Education for Apple India.

During his long career, Kumar’s leadership positions have included numerous roles within IBM, as well as over 13 years with Microsoft in a variety of product management, enterprise sales, and partner-focused positions. In his corporate journey, he also had insightful experience with Tata Telecom at an earlier stage in his career.

Executive transition and interim appointment

The executive change follows India becoming a key market for fast cloud infrastructure and artificial intelligence adoption. Google Cloud has several competitors, with industry giants Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure going for large enterprise accounts and growing startup customers in a dynamic household setting.

Announcing the move, Karan Bajwa affirmed the company’s existing momentum in the Indian market and its commitment to continue building on it with Google Cloud. He further emphasized that the entire business opportunity of its customer base and ecosystem partners is greater than it is today in India.

The interim role positions someone with broad experience in enterprise sales, digital-native businesses, and legacy technology firms to lead Google Cloud India operations.

Conclusion

By appointing Amit Kumar as the interim India head, Google Cloud secured strategic continuity as it navigates an executive leadership transition. Google Cloud has strong internal leadership staying in place to ensure that the company continues its business direction, despite Sashikumar Sreedharan leaving the company to become President and Chief Business Officer at Sarvam AI. Kumar’s background at global technology giants such as Apple, Microsoft, IBM, and Google Cloud puts it in a strong position, with a keen focus on enterprise cloud and artificial intelligence solutions within India’s growing market.
