The science city project in Dehradun has moved an important step forward with a fresh funding allocation of ₹14 crore from the central government. This decision was conveyed in a formal letter signed by the Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The extra cash support is meant to facilitate the development of the flagship scientific project and to complete it successfully as a landmark project of the state of Uttarakhand.

Financial breakdown and central contribution

The additional allocation is part of a larger requirement for financial gaps for completion of the Science City project estimated at approximately ₹39 crore. The Uttarakhand state government has revealed that the Union Ministry of Culture will bear approximately ₹14 crore of this deficit. 

The balance of roughly ₹25 crore would be provided by the government of Uttarakhand and Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST). Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that the funds have been approved after a detailed review meeting for the project was held, during which the findings and assessments were confirmed. 

With the approval given centrally of ₹14 crore, the amount will be regarded as the Central Government share and shall be spent specifically to cover the expenditure for new and essential elements of the project. The state government said that the extra central contribution would be split in a 60:40 ratio between the Centre and states based on the financial terms of the original project.
