Twitter is known to make modifications to its platform’s user interface, as other social media platforms do from time to time to maintain the UI up to current with times and newer usage trends. However, modifications are often pulled back when they do not receive the intended input. Twitter’s most recent upgrade, which is now under testing, could be the platform’s next innovation to elicit mixed opinions.

Twitter modified the look of its share button for many Indian users earlier this week. The share icon, which was initially an arrow, now resembles a WhatsApp icon. While this may lead you to believe that sharing tweets directly on WhatsApp, the country’s most popular messaging service, is not the case.

The share button resembles the WhatsApp icon. It still works the same as the old share button, opening the same share menu from which you may share the tweet in your Twitter DMs or via other apps such as WhatsApp, Instagram, and so on.

The modification would have been great if it had included a straight share button to WhatsApp or made WhatsApp the primary shortcut in the share menu that appeared. It, however, performs neither of these things. The Twitter India handle does state that the feature is only a test for the time being, implying that this change may only be temporary.

Twitter made another adjustment earlier this year in March that left users perplexed. Instead of seeing the feed and tweets in chronological order, users would see ‘top’ tweets first. Meanwhile, viewers who wanted the chronological view had to switch to a different tab on the right.

Naturally, the change drew widespread criticism, and Twitter was obliged to reverse it and return the app to its normal feed on March 15, just four days after it was announced on March 11.
