Top 10 Advertising Agencies in UK
SUMMARY
The UK has one of the biggest advertising industries in the world, and London sits at the centre of much of it.
Some agencies on this list have been making British advertising for decades. Others are much younger. A few are still independent, while names such as Ogilvy, VML, AMV BBDO and Saatchi & Saatchi belong to large international agency groups.
The work has changed as well.
An advertising agency once concentrated mainly on television, print, radio and outdoor campaigns. Those channels still matter, but clients now expect agencies to think about social media, digital content, customer experience, creators, data, commerce and technology at the same time.
There is plenty of money moving through the market. UK advertising investment reached £11.7 billion in the first quarter of 2026 alone, and the Advertising Association and WARC currently expect spending to reach about £50.5 billion for the full year.
The UK also sells a large amount of advertising expertise overseas. Advertising-service exports reached a record £19.4 billion in 2025, making the UK the world’s second-largest advertising exporter.
This article looks at 10 major advertising agencies in UK based on their presence in the country, client work, history, services and current activity. It is not a strict revenue ranking because many agencies are privately owned, while others sit inside much larger international groups.

1. VCCP

| Founded | 2002 |
| Headquarters | London |
| Network Size | 1,600+ people across nine offices |
| Main Work | Advertising and integrated marketing |
VCCP started in London in 2002 with four founders and O2 as its first major client.
The agency built its reputation around what it calls a challenger approach. In practical terms, that means much of its work starts with finding something in a market that a brand can do differently rather than simply producing another campaign around an existing message.
O2 has remained closely associated with VCCP, but the agency has worked with a much wider group of British and international brands. Its client history includes Cadbury, easyJet, Domino’s, comparethemarket.com, Canon and Virgin Media O2.
Some of those relationships have produced advertising that became familiar well beyond the industry itself.
The meerkats created for comparethemarket.com are one obvious example. Cadbury’s later advertising under the “There’s a Glass and a Half in Everyone” idea took a different route, using small acts of generosity rather than talking constantly about chocolate.
VCCP now does much more than television advertising. Its UK business covers advertising, media, digital experience, production, behavioural science, data and AI-related creative work. The wider network had more than 1,600 people across nine global offices in 2026.
The agency has remained active in new business as well. In September 2026, Macmillan Cancer Support appointed VCCP as its strategic brand and creative partner.

2. adam&eve\TBWA

| Established | 2008 as adam&eve |
| UK Office | London |
| Current Name | adam&eve\TBWA |
| Main Work | Advertising, strategy, digital and social |
For years, most people in British advertising knew this agency as adam&eveDDB.
That changed in 2026.
The agency now operates as adam&eve\TBWA, and its current London office is at 16 Old Bailey. Companies House records also show the DDB UK legal entity changing its name to adam&eve\TBWA Limited in March 2026.
The adam&eve\TBWA name originally came from the independent agency founded by James Murphy, David Golding, Ben Priest and Jon Forsyth in 2008.
Its rise was closely connected with John Lewis.
For years, the agency made the retailer’s Christmas advertising into something people actually waited to see. Campaigns such as The Long Wait, The Bear and the Hare and Monty the Penguin turned an annual retail advert into a much bigger piece of British popular culture.
John Lewis has since moved to Saatchi & Saatchi, but adam&eve remains a large creative agency.
Current work shown by the agency includes Columbia Sportswear, Twix, LEGOLAND and the Campaign Against Living Miserably. Its services now include brand strategy and advertising, brand design, social, digital, customer experience, performance marketing, production and data.
The agency also had a strong 2026 Cannes Lions, taking 11 awards including a Grand Prix and a Titanium Lion.

3. Mother London

| Founded | 1996 |
| Headquarters | London |
| Ownership | Independent |
| London Team | 250+ people |
Mother London started around a kitchen table in London in 1996.
The founders wanted to build an agency without the traditional structure of one of the large advertising networks. Nearly 30 years later, Mother is still independent, although its business has expanded well beyond London.
Its London office now has more than 250 people. The wider Mother family also has operations in New York, Los Angeles, Berlin and Shanghai.
The agency has worked with some very different brands.
KFC has produced some of Mother’s most recognisable British advertising. IKEA is another long-running client. More recent work includes M&S, Uber and Uber Eats, while Mother has also been producing campaigns for Anthropic, the company behind Claude.
That mix is useful when looking at how the agency works.
A campaign for KFC does not need to sound like one for a technology company, and an M&S food advert should not look like an IKEA campaign. Mother tends to build a separate advertising world around each brand rather than forcing everything into one recognisable agency style.
The agency’s current work has continued to attract attention. Mother’s A Time and a Place campaign for Claude won the Film Grand Prix at Cannes Lions in 2026, while the agency also picked up awards for work involving KFC, Uber and other clients.
Mother has also expanded beyond a standard creative department through areas such as design and media.

4. Ogilvy UK

| Founder | David Ogilvy |
| Global Agency Founded | 1948 |
| UK Base | London |
| Main Work | Advertising, PR, consulting and customer experience |
Ogilvy UK has one of the longest histories of any name on this list.
David Ogilvy started his agency in 1948, and the business went on to become one of the best-known advertising networks in the world.
The modern Ogilvy is much broader than the agency David Ogilvy ran.
Ogilvy UK combines advertising with PR, social and influence, consulting, health communications and customer experience. It can therefore work on a traditional brand campaign and then bring in separate teams for areas such as behavioural science, CRM or reputation.
British Airways has been one of the brands associated with Ogilvy’s UK advertising work.
The relationship has included large brand campaigns as well as smaller ideas tied to particular moments in travel. Ogilvy has also worked with companies and organisations including IKEA, Unilever, American Express, Nestlé and the Mayor of London.
The UK operation is currently led by James Murphy, one of the original founders of adam&eve. He returned to Ogilvy after later co-founding New Commercial Arts.
Creative advertising is still at the centre of the agency, but the modern business reflects how large clients buy marketing today. They may want the same agency group to help with a television campaign, social content, customer experience and PR rather than appointing a completely separate company for each part.
Ogilvy’s wider global network was also named Network of the Year at the 2026 D&AD Awards.

5. AMV BBDO

| Founded | 1977 |
| Headquarters | London |
| Network | BBDO |
| Main Work | Creative advertising and integrated campaigns |
AMV Group is another agency with deep roots in British advertising.
The company was founded in 1977 and later became part of the BBDO network. It is still based in London and operates as one of BBDO’s main UK creative agencies.
For a long period, AMV BBDO was also one of the biggest agencies in Britain by billings.
Its past and present work stretches across consumer goods, financial services, healthcare, technology and other categories. The agency became particularly well known for long relationships with large advertisers rather than relying only on short project work.
Guinness is one of the brands most closely associated with the agency’s history. AMV was behind advertising for the long-running Guinness relationship, including work that became part of the wider history of British television advertising.
The agency has also produced major campaigns for brands such as Walkers, Mars and Essity.
AMV today works across advertising, content, production and related creative services. Its London operation forms part of the wider BBDO community, giving clients access to agencies in other countries when a campaign has to travel internationally.
It remained active at major creative awards in 2026, including three Lions at Cannes.

6. BBH London

| Full Name | Bartle Bogle Hegarty |
| Founded | 1982 |
| London Office | Kingly Street |
| Main Work | Advertising, activation and brand transformation |
BBH began in London in 1982 with John Bartle, Nigel Bogle and John Hegarty.
The black sheep in its logo came from the agency’s early idea that a brand should not be afraid to stand apart from everyone else.
Its most famous early relationship was with Levi’s.
Ads such as Launderette helped turn the agency into one of the important names in British advertising during the 1980s and 1990s. BBH later produced major campaigns for brands including Audi and Johnnie Walker.
The current client list is different, but there is still a mixture of large established brands and newer businesses.
BBH London’s leadership page names work across Tesco, Burger King, Audi, Monzo, Paddy Power, Weetabix and Häagen-Dazs.
Tesco has been especially important to the agency in recent years. BBH has worked on both large television campaigns and smaller pieces built around products, culture and particular times of the year.
The London agency now divides its main offer into advertising, activation and brand transformation. It also has specialist units covering production, health and B2B work.
BBH remains based at 60 Kingly Street in London.

- Activation
- Social and content

7. Saatchi & Saatchi London

| Founded | 1970 |
| London Office | Chancery Lane |
| Network | Publicis Groupe |
| Main Work | Advertising and brand communications |
Saatchi & Saatchi is one of the names most closely connected with the history of British advertising.
Brothers Charles and Maurice Saatchi started the agency in London in 1970.
It became enormous during the following two decades and produced some of the best-known British political and commercial advertising of the period.
The business today is very different from the Saatchi & Saatchi of the 1980s, but the London agency remains active with some of Britain’s biggest consumer brands.
John Lewis is now one of them.
The retailer appointed Saatchi & Saatchi as its creative partner after ending its long relationship with adam&eveDDB. The account covers John Lewis as well as Waitrose, including the Christmas advertising that receives so much attention each year.
Current work shown by the agency also includes EE, the British Heart Foundation, Santander, OREO and London Sport.
EE is another important part of the current business. Saatchi’s work has covered both large brand advertising and campaigns around broadband, mobile products and online safety.
The London office is now led by CEO Claire Hollands, while Franki Goodwin is Chief Creative Officer.

8. VML UK

| Created | 2024 |
| UK Base | London |
| Parent Group | WPP |
| Main Work | Advertising, commerce, CX and technology |
VML is a newer name, although the agencies behind it have much longer histories.
WPP created the current VML by bringing together Wunderman Thompson and VMLY&R. The combined agency became operational at the start of 2024.
That explains why VML looks different from a traditional advertising agency.
It still creates large brand campaigns, but it also has substantial teams working in commerce, customer experience, data and technology.
The UK business was brought together more closely again in 2026, when VML aligned its core agency with its Enterprise Solutions operation. Joe Petyan was appointed CEO of VML UK in January 2026 to lead the combined business.
KitKat has produced some of the London agency’s most visible recent work.
VML London’s KitKat Heist became one of the network’s major award winners in 2026, picking up a Grand Prix at Cannes as well as further recognition at the Gerety Awards. The London team also created the Little Breaks work for KitKat.
VML is particularly relevant for large companies that do not want advertising separated completely from ecommerce or customer experience.
A brand campaign may create demand, but the same client still needs a website, retail experience or digital platform that allows people to act on it. VML has built much of its current offer around connecting those parts.
Unique Offerings
- Brand advertising
- Customer experience
- Commerce
- Data and technology
- Social
- Enterprise digital solutions
9. Wieden+Kennedy London

| Global Agency Founded | 1982 |
| London Office | Hanbury Street |
| Ownership | Independent |
| Main Work | Advertising and brand communications |
Wieden+Kennedy is an American agency by origin, but its London office has played a large role in British advertising.
The wider company was founded in Portland, Oregon, in 1982 and remains independently owned.
W+K London works from Hanbury Street and sits inside an international network of Wieden+Kennedy offices.
Nike is the brand most people connect with Wieden+Kennedy.
That relationship extends across several offices, but London has produced important Nike work of its own. Nothing Beats a Londoner, for example, was built around young people, sport and the reality of trying to train in the city rather than using the usual polished images of professional athletes.
Honda produced another famous piece of W+K London work.
The 2003 Cog commercial used a long chain reaction made from car parts. It became one of those advertisements that people discussed because of how it had been made, not simply because of the product being sold.
The London office’s current client list includes brands such as Nike, Ford, TK Maxx, Lurpak, Malibu, Coca-Cola and Formula 1.
Its services cover creative advertising, strategy, branded content, digital, social, design and communications planning.
Unique Offerings
- Brand advertising
- Creative strategy
- Branded content
- Social
- Design
- Integrated campaigns
10. McCann London

| Network | McCann |
| UK Base | London |
| London Office | Bishopsgate |
| Main Work | Advertising and integrated brand communications |
McCann London has been part of the international advertising industry for more than a century.
Its London operation works inside the wider McCann network but also produces campaigns specifically for British audiences.
The agency’s current London office is at 135 Bishopsgate.
Microsoft’s Xbox has been one of McCann London’s visible recent clients.
The agency’s The Caretaker work for Xbox received recognition at The One Show in 2026, while other recent London work has included Mastercard and environmental work involving Stream2Sea.
McCann London has also been winning new consumer accounts.
Mindful Chef appointed the agency as its agency of record in 2026, followed by new advertising under the Eat for Joy idea. Other recent work has included Nurofen, Rennie and Peroni.
Like most larger agencies today, McCann does not stop at producing one television advert.
Its campaigns can move through film, outdoor advertising, digital platforms, social and experiences depending on where the audience is most likely to see the idea.
Unique Offerings
- Creative advertising
- Brand strategy
- Integrated campaigns
- Digital advertising
- Social content
- International campaign support
Why the Advertising Industry Is Important in the UK
The UK Has One of the World’s Largest Advertising Markets
Advertising is a much bigger industry in Britain than the number of agencies in London might suggest.
UK businesses spent £46.7 billion on advertising during 2025. That was 6.4% more than the previous year.
Growth continued into 2026.
Advertising investment reached £11.7 billion during the first quarter, and AA/WARC now expects the market to reach approximately £50.5 billion for the full year.
Not all of that money passes through creative agencies, of course. A large part pays for media itself.
The figures still show why advertising remains an important commercial industry rather than simply a creative profession.
British Agencies Sell Their Work Around the World
UK agencies do not depend only on British advertisers.
Advertising-service exports reached £19.4 billion in 2025, according to the Advertising Association and Credos.
The United States alone accounted for £5.5 billion of those exports. The UK was ranked as the world’s second-largest advertising exporter.
That international business can happen in several ways.
A London agency may create a campaign that later runs in dozens of countries. Another may lead the strategy while local offices adapt the work. Independent agencies can also win international clients directly from their UK teams.
This is why agencies such as VCCP, Mother and adam&eve can start in London and still build businesses far beyond Britain.
Search, Social and Retail Media Take More of the Budget
Television has not disappeared, but it no longer dominates advertising in the way it once did.
In the first quarter of 2026, UK spending on search alone reached £4.6 billion. Social-media investment grew 17.7% compared with the same period a year earlier, while retail media rose 17.9%.
This has changed agency work.
A campaign cannot automatically begin with a 60-second television commercial anymore.
The idea may start on TikTok, appear on outdoor screens, move through creators and finish on a retailer’s website. In other cases, television is still the best place to begin.
Agencies now have to decide how an idea behaves in each of those places instead of simply cutting the same advert into different sizes.
Large Agencies Are Becoming Broader Businesses
The distinction between an advertising agency, digital agency and consultancy has become much less clear.
Ogilvy has consulting, PR and customer-experience businesses.
VML combines creative work with commerce and large technology projects.
VCCP has media, behavioural science and AI capabilities alongside advertising.
Mother has expanded into design and media without giving up its independent structure. This has happened partly because clients have changed.
A company may not want to solve its brand advertising, ecommerce, social content and customer experience as four completely separate problems.
The agency industry has had to follow that change.

Most large agencies now provide more than traditional advertising. Their services can include brand strategy, television and outdoor campaigns, digital advertising, social media, content, design, customer experience, data, commerce, production and sometimes media planning.
How should a company choose an advertising agency?
The first thing to check is whether the agency understands the business problem rather than simply whether it has won awards. Relevant category experience, quality of the team, strategic thinking, creative work, cost and the way the agency will actually work with the client’s internal team all matter.
