TikTok is developing a new feature known as “AI Song.” This feature utilizes artificial intelligence to generate songs based on user input. AI Song is an experimental function that is limited to certain users at this time. The purpose of this feature is to be enjoyed, not to try and make the next big hit song.

According to the business, TechCrunch, AI Song generates lyrics in response to text cues using Bloom, a big language model. After that, music from a TikTok pre-saved repertoire is combined with the text.
A TikTok user, Jonah Manzano, published a tour of the new feature that explains how it functions. The video states that users are prompted to “enter a prompt to generate a song” before AI Song begins. TikTok offers some suggested prompts, such as “A new beginning,” “Going to concerts,” and “Cuddling with pets.” Alternatively, you can type in your prompt. The software will begin creating your music once you submit a prompt.
The program will then write lyrics about your suggestion and pair them with music after a short while. By choosing between “pop,” “EDM,” and “Hip-hop,” you can alter the song’s atmosphere. The end product is an odd song whose lyrics are taken directly from the entered text prompt.
According to the video, the app states that “there are rules that must be followed” when utilizing AI Song. For example, using the feature to hurt or take advantage of kids or disseminate false or private information that harms others is prohibited. It cannot be used to harass, impersonate, or disparage someone.
Like any other test feature, whether and when AI Song will become more generally available is still being determined. TikTok did mention that the feature’s name might change in the future.
Aside from TikTok, not all companies have released tools to assist users in making music for short-form videos. Creators may now create 30-second AI-generated soundtracks with YouTube’s “Dream Track” function, which was introduced a few months ago. A selection of artists, such as Alec Benjamin, Charlie Puth, Charli XCX, Demi Lovato, John Legend, Sia, T-Pain, Troye Sivan, and Papoose, can be used by users to create soundtracks.
Although TikTok’s new feature isn’t intended for the music industry, the company that owns TikTok, ByteDance, released a free music production app in the US last June to assist musicians in producing and editing audio in a manner akin to portable innovative digital audio workstations (DAWs).
Users of Ripple can hum or sing a melody straight into the app, and it will use machine learning to expand it and create an instrumental track. Music owned or licensed by ByteDance was used to train the app’s model. With Ripple, users can effortlessly record, edit, trim, and resize audio recordings on their mobile devices.
The addition of the new AI Song feature coincides with TikTok’s increasing penetration of the music industry. To compete with services like Spotify and Apple Music, it introduced “TikTok Music,” a subscription-only music streaming service, in a few different nations last year.
It has been more than a year since ByteDance filed a trademark application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for a service called “TikTok Music,” so we can probably expect a launch at some point, even though TikTok hasn’t disclosed any details about when it plans to launch the streaming service in the United States.
