Journey of Qblox

Qblox was launched in 2018 by Niels Bultink and Jules Van Oven as a spin-off of QuTech, and it plans to introduce a unique control stack technology called Cluster. They want to offer a flexible and modular solution for qubit control and readout which will cover a broad range of customers and qubit technologies. Qblox has exponential growth leveraging on revenue without massive investment which is uncommon in the market.

Quantonation and Investors

Quantonation is the first early-stage VC fund dedicated to deep physics and quantum technologies working to facilitate the commercialization of quantum advancements. It was with their investment in trusting the company’s expertise and the ability to scale up the technology. Invest-NL is a Dutch National Promotional Institute that works on long-term investment with sustainable social returns. Thus, their investment in Qblox’s funding round proves that the company can become an industry disruptor.

Qblox’s Cluster Vision and Mission

Qblox Cluster is the modern quantum control stack designed by the Dutch company Qblox cooperating with the top academic labs. Qblox is located right at the edge of the quantum revolution, pushing the development of quantum technology to help scientists around the globe. Their journey demands not only the best products, services, and people, but also quantum control and they are determined to make this the best.

Qblox’s goal is to deliver versatile and low-latency qubit control equipment. Their hardware and software solutions enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of quantum computing systems. More importantly, Qblox practices customer-oriented innovation, as the firm realizes that advancement is only possible when it brings value to the customers. They stress the issue of ownership, responsibility, and trustworthy relations with customers, suppliers, and partners. Qblox’s vision is to enable quantum leaders with the most advanced control systems that enhance quantum innovation.

Qblox’s Cluster Technology

Qblox Cluster is a state-of-the-art quantum control stack by Qblox, a company from Delft that cooperates with some of the best academic laboratories. The Qblox Cluster is a 19-inch rack mount instrument that is designed to accommodate up to 20 modules. These modules control and read qubits across a broad frequency range of up to 18. 5 GHz.

A single Cluster can accommodate about 20 qubits of the superconducting qubits, spin qubits, quantum dots, and NV centers in the diamond. The Cluster easily scales for pulse generation, from single-digit qubits up to the thousands. It offers a solution for quantum experimentation that spans from baseband (0 – 400 MHz) to microwave frequencies.

Finally, researchers have full control over high- and low-level software, such as the open-source stack known as Quantify. This software enables the control and readout of different types of qubits for characterization, calibration, and high-level measurements. Renowned QC laboratories across the globe rely on the Qblox Cluster for quantum investigation, believing in a world where FTQC is possible. Qblox Cluster integrates hardware and software to control qubits through electricity to support complex quantum experience and development.

Conclusion

Qblox wants to use this new funding source to increase its focus on research and development, move up product development, and improve its place on the market. The team of more than 95 people further develops the hardware and software that works with various types of qubits without sacrificing complexity or increasing the number of supported qubits to the thousands.

Qblox’s Series A funding is an exciting step for the company on the road to pushing quantum development forward. With time, quantum technology continues to advance, positioning Qblox as a company that continues to make vital contributions to the value chain of quantum computing.
