After securing 20 seats in the 40-member Goa Assembly in the recently ended elections, Pramod Sawant will be sworn in as Chief Minister for the second time today. After the BJP won 20 seats, one short of a majority in the 40-member House, Pramod Sawant, a three-time MLA from the state, will be named CM. The BJP has received backing from three independent MLAs and two members from the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP).
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and others will attend the event at 11 a.m. in Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium close here.
In an interview with ANI, Pramod Sawant stated, “All Chief Ministers, Union Ministers, top-ranking businesspeople, and missionaries have been invited. It’s a free and open programme. I’ll be meeting with the general public soon. The event is still being planned.”
Pramod Sawant (48) is a member of the Goa Legislative Assembly representing Sankhalim in North Goa. When the BJP established its administration in 2017 under Manohar Parrikar’s leadership, he was chosen Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. After Parrikar’s death in March 2019, he was sworn in for the first time as chief minister. When the coastal state, like the rest of the country, was hit by the COVID-19 epidemic, Sawant, an Ayurveda medical practitioner, was in charge.
