People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India has chosen Sonakshi Sinha “Person of the Year 2022.” The actor was given the title by the animal rights non-profit organisation in honour of her efforts to “save the lives of animals sacrificed for fashion, and her strong advocacy for dogs and cats in need.”
The phrase “more than 1.4 billion cows, sheep, goats, dogs, cats, and other animals are killed in awful ways every year to be transformed into leather items that no one wants” was emphasised in her anti-leather campaign for PETA India.
Recall that in the ad photo, the Double XL actor held a bag that appeared to be bleeding while posing with a serious expression on her face. Choose leather-free was written at the bottom, with the words “Did your bag bleed” placed at the top.
The press release from PETA India further explained that she was the obvious choice because “she actively encourages shoppers to embrace animal- and Earth-friendly vegan leather, such as that made from pineapple leaves, cork, fruit waste, and mushrooms, and her history of speaking out for animals includes calling for stronger animal protection legislation.”
Sonakshi actively participates in animal welfare initiatives and frequently advocates for stricter animal protection regulations.
Notably, she also participated in a pro-adoption campaign to support the rights of desi dogs on International Homeless Animals Day and wrote a letter urging the rescue of an elephant that had been mistreated so that she may be utilised for rides close to Jaipur.
Former Supreme Court Justice KS Panicker Radhakrishnan, cricketer Virat Kohli, comedian Kapil Sharma, and actors John Abraham, Anushka Sharma, Sunny Leone, R Madhavan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Hema Malini, and Sonam Kapoor Ahuja are just a few of the past winners of PETA India’s Person of the Year Award.
