According to a flyer at a city onboarding center, Ola would charge drivers INR 5,000 as a security deposit to rent its e-bike.
For its e-bike taxi drivers, Ola has established daily fixed wages at INR 800 for bookings of 10 to 14 and INR 1,300 for bookings of 15 to 19.
Last month, the Bhavish Aggarwal-led business debuted its bike taxi service using e-bikes from Ola Electric.
Ola, a significant provider of ride-hailing services, is courting drivers with the promise of a monthly salary of more than INR 70,000 after relaunching its bike taxi services in Bengaluru last month with its bikes.
According to a flyer handed out at an onboarding center in the city, Ola will charge drivers INR 5,000 as a security deposit to rent its bikes. According to Moneycontrol, the Bhavish Aggarwal-led company stated that drivers using the Ola bike taxi service could make more than INR 70,000 monthly. A driver must have a valid driver’s license, PAN card, Aadhaar, and bank information to rent an Ola S1 Air and utilize it as a bike taxi.
According to the article, many young people had lined up at the enrollment center to sign up for Ola’s bike taxi service. However, several limits and conditions are attached to Ola’s promise of profits of above INR 70,000 per month.
According to the brochure, Ola has established a daily fixed-wage of INR 800 for its e-bike taxi drivers for 10 to 14 bookings. However, a daily rental fee of INR 100 would be charged to the drivers.
The rental cost has been fixed at INR 50, and the daily incentive has been set at INR 1,300 for bookings of 15 to 19. The drivers can earn between INR 1,800 and INR 2,800 for daily bookings of more than 20 per day without paying any daily rental. If the number of reservations is less than 10, the drivers are not entitled to any daily fixed income, but they are still required to pay a rental fee of INR 300.
According to the business’s rate chart last month, Ola has set a charge of INR 25 for 5 km and INR 50 for 10 km for the bike taxi service.
Inc42 discovered that customers are charged following this rate card after utilizing the service. Some areas of Bengaluru, including Yeshwanthpur, Malleshwaram, and Whitefield, were inaccessible for an e-bike taxi service was not accessible. This followed expectations since the service was recently introduced, and the business is still onboarding drivers for it.
An inquiry sent to Ola in the meantime asking for more details about its claims that drivers earn over INR 70,000 per month, the number of e-bike taxis on the road, and daily bookings for the service went unanswered until this report was published.
A rider claimed in the Moneycontrol report that an Ola S1 scooter travels roughly 70–75 kilometers on a full charge. The car’s battery runs out after seven or eight trips, even though he needs to take ten rides to earn an incentive of INR 800. The subsequent complete recharging of the e-scooter requires more than six hours.
It should be noted that while Ola has previously employed aggressive approaches to find drivers, they have occasionally gotten the firm into problems. The company was sued by Ola taxi drivers last year on charges of deceit, fraud, and exploitation, according to Inc42.
The Karnataka transport department still needs to grant Ola a permit to operate its e-bike taxi services in the state. The business submitted a license application last month.
