The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has begun erecting platform screen doors on the future Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) route in order to offer safety and security as well as to avoid suicide cases.
The priority part of the RRTS corridor, beginning at Guldhar, is where the platform screen doors are being erected, according to authorities.
“Since its foundation, the NCRTC has placed the highest priority on passenger safety. Various platform screen door components, including automated sliding doors, fixed door panels, platform end gates, emergency escape doors, and fixed screens, are being put on the platform throughout this procedure, according to a representative.
RRTS train doors and the European Train Control System (ETCS) Level-2 signalling system will be connected with the screen doors, according to officials, so that platform screen doors and train doors will open and close simultaneously. The train will only go forward when both the platform screen doors and the train’s doors are shut for the protection of the passengers.
In addition, the NCRTC is adopting Hybrid Level 3 of the European Train Control System (ETCS Level 2), one of the most sophisticated signalling and train control systems in the world, for the operation of RRTS trains.
The first of its type Long Term Evolution (LTE) radio-based signalling system will enable the newest digital interlocking with automated train operations (ATO). According to the official, this will allow for increased train service frequency, improved headway, and increased throughput.
According to officials, it will also aid in improved crowd control and incident avoidance. Additionally, the trains that will travel along the RRTS route will generally include 6 coaches, 5 of which will be of the ordinary class and 1 of the business class.
The premium class coach will have two doors, whereas the regular class coach will have three doors on one side.
“The entire train will have 17 doors in total. Based on this, each platform of the RRTS stations will have a total of 17 platform screen doors installed, the official continues.
The 82 km long Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut segment of the RRTS corridor is currently being built. According to authorities, the corridor is expected to be finished by 2025, and the section from Sahibabad to Duhai would be open to the public by March 2023.
