By the end of this year, Meta is set to deploy close to 350 thousand Nvidia AI chips. They also intend to merge their two big AI research groups, FAIR and GenAI, to accelerate the process. Meta is pulling off massive AI moves. Mark Zuckerberg said that they are planning to develop a super-smart AI that will be comparable to or may even surpass human intelligence. This kind of AI is known as artificial general intelligence (AGI).
Zuckerberg, as CNN quotes him, states that to get the best AI for things like chatbots and businesses, they should advance their technological knowledge. He stated that the next generation of services is focused on building full general intelligence, which can be described as a human-level AI.
The report estimates that Meta is going to consume close to 350,000 Nvidia AI chips by the end of this year. They will also merge their two big AI research organizations, FAIR and GenAI, to accelerate their work.
According to Zuckerberg, there is also a relationship between the metaverse and AI.
He estimates that by the close of this decade, people will be conversing with AIs through smart glasses like those Meta is making in partnership with Ray-Ban. These are AI-powered glasses that help users to make calls, send messages, and shoot videos without their hands.
This announcement is one of the largest AI commitments made by Meta so far. Other large tech companies that are parting with their new AI instruments and innovations include Microsoft, Google, and Amazon, among others.
However, there are some concerns that substantial new products can have unnoticed challenges. Last month, Zuckerberg announced the founding of another group at Meta to strengthen its efforts towards AI tools.
Since that time, Meta has published tools and details of how AI affects the content they view on its applications.
Dipanjan Chatterjee, an analyst at Forrester Research, notes that the statement shouldn’t come as a surprise since Meta recently changed its name to reflect more emphasis on AI and the metaverse. He remarked that every firm is currently an AI organization, and interest in the metaverse has declined since Facebook became Meta, so it’s good for the company to use AI as a solution.
