The central government has created the e-Shram portal, which will serve as a consolidated database of unorganized employees who have been given Aadhaar cards. Workers who successfully join the e-Shram Portal will receive an eShram Card.
The government introduced the e-Shram platform in August 2021 to improve the implementation of different social security policies for unorganised sector workers. The Ministry of Labor and Employment launched the e-Shram portal to help workers in the unorganised sector who aren’t members of the EPFO or ESIC.
After signing up for the Shramik Yojana and acquiring an e-Shram card, registered people will be eligible for a variety of incentives. Aside from that, the government’s acceptance of social security programmes will assist workers.
Documents necessary for e-Shram Portal registration
Employees must have an Aadhaar number, an Aadhaar-connected cellphone number, and a bank account number to register for the e-SHRAM portal, according to the e-Shram website.
The UAN
“UAN is a 12-digit number uniquely provided to each unorganised worker after registration on the e-Shram portal,” the Labour Ministry said in a tweet. The UAN number will be a permanent number, meaning that once assigned, it will not alter for the rest of the worker’s life.”
What is an E-Shram Card?
Workers who successfully register for the e-Shram Portal will receive an eShram Card. There will be a 12-digit UAN number on that card. Self-registered workers who use the e-Shram site are not required to apply for any other government social welfare programme individually.
The e-Shram portal is open to any worker who is disorganised and is between the ages of 16 and 59. After registering, he or she will be eligible for a two lakhs loan accident insurance policy through PMSBY. All unorganised worker social security benefits will be given through this platform in the future. This database could be used to provide critical support to eligible unorganised employees in emergency and pandemic-like conditions.
There is no need for workers to renew their eSHRAM cards in order to keep their information, such as their phone number and current address, up to date. He must update his account at least once a year in order to keep it current. After registering, a worker can update his personal information, such as his mobile number, current address, occupation, educational qualification, skill types, and family details, by going to the e-Shram portal or the nearest Common Services Centre (CSC). Workers can update their information by going to the e-Shram portal or the CSC’s website.
Under the PM Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSB), insurance will be provided to workers in the unorganized sectors free of cost for the first year. From succeeding years, a nominal fee of Rs.12 per year will be deducted from the beneficiaries’ bank account. The workers will get a coverage of Rs.2 lakh for accidental death/permanent disability and Rs.1 lakh for partial disability. Workers wanting to continue after the first year will be asked for consent beforehand. The insurance cycle will work from 1st June to 31st May of the calendar year.
