Jaskaran Singh, a 22-year-old University of Texas (UT) student, won the national college championship round of ‘Jeopardy’ on Tuesday. According to KVUE, Singh, a senior finance and economics major from Plano, Texas, was awarded $25,000 after defeating Liz Feltner of Northeastern University and Raymond Goslow of Kennesaw State.

The Jeopardy website cited Singh as stating, “[It] feels really fantastic.” He went on to say, “It’ll surely go a long way toward paying my tuition (fees) and a lot more.”

According to the UT website, the UT tower was lighted up in burnt orange on Tuesday to commemorate Singh’s triumph. After winning the semi-finals on February 18, Singh advanced to the final round. According to a KVUE report, Singh won the quarterfinals on February 11 and received $19,000 for answering a question regarding Ukraine.

Singh was reported by University of Texas News (UT News) as expressing that he is overwhelmed by the love of his Longhorn family after winning the quarterfinals.

Singh told UT News that his mother forced him to apply to Jeopardy when he was 13 years old. “I used to watch Jeopardy as a youngster, and my mother encouraged me to apply when I was 13, but I didn’t make it past the audition round.” ‘What’s the worst that might happen?’ she pushed me to try again last year. So much of this is based on luck, but it certainly worked out.”

According to Singh’s Linkedin page, he volunteered for three months as a Punjabi instructor in 2018. He has also taught youngsters Sikh history and is fluent in Punjabi, either natively or bilingually.
