SUMMARY

India and Russia have set ambitious economic targets for expanding bilateral commerce, which are to be achieved during the next several years. In recent interactions made by Indian Ambassador Vinay Kumar, the two countries are striving to boost bilateral trade to $100 billion by 2030. The two leaders have also tasked their governments and ministries to pursue investment growth to scale up bilateral investment to the $50 billion target within the timeframe set by this trade proposition. The broad economic aspirations reflect a collaborative commitment from both sides’ leaders to strengthen commercial, industrial, and strategic ties in the two nations.

Discussions at the BRICS Summit and industrial exhibitions

The mechanism for such expanded economic goals was examined in detail during high-level talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin. The talks were conducted on the sidelines of the 12th and 13th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12 and 13.

At the meeting, both leaders reviewed the entire scope of bilateral relations and shared actionable priorities at the governmental level. Ambassador Kumar emphasized that a practical outcome of this high-level cooperation was the VSE’s joint arrival at the business summit of the BRICS collective, highlighting the mutual will to deepen business cooperation.

Innoprom-India, the first Russian industrial exhibition, was held in the Indian capital, New Delhi, as part of the efforts to strengthen economic cooperation. The trade event was a chance for manufacturers to demonstrate industrial capacity, provide business-to-business connections, and discuss potential manufacturing partnerships.

The sensation accomplished for the exhibition is in alignment with the instruction provided by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi and the President of Russia Vladimir Putin to promote more business interaction, strengthen industrial cooperation, and establish new opportunities for joint business development between Indian and Russian businesses.

Educational partnerships and skilled workforce collaboration

India and Russia are working towards expanding bilateral labour cooperation to meet industry needs, apart from trade in goods and mutual investments. Ambassador Kumar stated that India was fully prepared to provide Russia with the number of skilled workers as per the industrial requirements of the country.

Indian nationals currently account for approximately 25% to 30% of Russia’s established quota for foreign workers. India, with a population close to 1.5 billion, a median age of the workforce of 29 years and the working-age population accounting for around 69% of the total, is set to become a big global hub of skilled manpower training for both domestic and export markets.

New Delhi has proposed specific schemes for cooperation with Moscow for the sustainable development of the workforce and the needs of particular industrial sectors. Ambassador Kumar said that India proposes establishment of educational institutions directly in India or cooperation with the existing Indian academic and training institutions.

This institutional cooperation is intended to supply highly qualified specialists who are needed by Russian industries for a long-term horizon and up to 2030 in terms of long-term growth and development priorities, with a set of bilateral industrial projects included.

Conclusion

The joint initiative of Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Vladimir Putin to reach $100 billion in trade and $50 billion in investments by 2030 is a new era in India-Russia relations. From the views of high-level discussions held at the BRICS summit to the successful organization of the Innoprom-India industrial event, both sides are striving to create a solid ground for long-term economic growth. This partnership will remain at the bilateral level to advance and strengthen industrial cooperation and fulfill its long-term objectives as relevant ministries and agencies implement the directives given by the leaders of the two countries.
