Researchers from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras and the Inspire Institute of Sports (IIS) in Bellary, Karnataka, are creating a low-cost boxing analytics platform to boost India’s medal total in the sport at the 2024 Olympics.
The Center of Excellence for Sports Science and Analytics at IIT Madras is creating a multi-version analytics platform called “Smartboxer” that will provide Indian sportsmen a superior competitive edge. It will use wearable sensors and cameras with Internet of Things (IoT) capabilities to provide feedback and performance evaluations.
Inspire Institute of Sport will use “Smartboxer” to evaluate the boxers’ performance (IIS). The “Smartboxer” analytics platform will be modified in response to IIS’s suggestions. This will make it possible for coaches and boxers to benefit from the programme in a useful way. This will assist in resolving sporting issues and improving sports equipment design.
The Indian government has identified a number of important sports on which to concentrate its efforts in order to meet the ambitious goal of boosting the number of medals at the 2024 Olympics. This covers athletics, badminton, wrestling, hockey, weightlifting, boxing, and shooting.
Following IIS approval, the researchers from IIT Madras want to submit a patent application for the “Smartboxer.”
