According to Bloomberg News, two scientists of Google’s artificial intelligence subsidiary DeepMind Laurent Sifre and Karl Tuyls are negotiating with investors in Paris for a new AI startup. The two individuals, who have already declared their intention to leave DeepMind, are rumoured to be working on a financing round that would result in more than 200 million euros ($217.84 million).

The startup, which at this stage is known as Holistic, might focus on the creation of an innovative AI model. Reuters has not received a response from Google and DeepMind after sending the latter requests for comments.

DeepMind, purchased by the parent company of Google Alphabet about a decade ago has been one among many who played prominently in AI research. It began relatively recently to produce its items in order not only itself but also it became a competitor to generative AI chatbots such as Microsoft-backed ChatGPT.

Other news concerning that, Mistral AI which is a Paris-based company co-founded by an ex-DeepMind researcher announced in December 2018 its second fundraising of 385 million euros ($419.34) within seven months only).

Google to Continue with Layoffs

In the first half of 2023, it relieved about 12 thousand employees from their duties. However, it appears like the company has yet to complete with sackings. The company has already initiated layoffs. According to reputable reports, the company is planning to discharge employees from all divisions of its ad sales team as a part of a reorganization that will combine AI to achieve greater efficiency across operations.

However, restructuring would have a significant impact on the ad sales team and customer care services because Google is trying to understand what can be gained through artificial intelligence. However, the affected employees have been informed and will be provided a chance to make an application for other positions that are available on Google. CEO of Google Sundar Pichai coined this period a rough one and agreed that something should be done to curb the situation before it gets worse in the days ahead.
