The Department of Posts on Sunday introduced a first-of-its-kind service on the Dal Lake that brings postal services, such as parcel booking, right to the homes of those residing near the well-known body of water.
Niraj Kumar, the chief postmaster general for the Jammu and Kashmir Circle, launched the “Shikara Post” service on the first day of the national postal week, which began on Sunday.
Specifically, he said, the service is meant to help traders who deal with tourists, elderly people who are unable to go to the post office to receive services, people who live in houseboats, and tourists who are travelling to Dal Lake.
Speaking at the event, the chief postmaster general declared that the Department of Posts has set out on a mission to help the people of the Union territory improve their economic situation and provide specialised services that meet the needs of different groups in society.
The department, through its extensive network, is promoting the various products of J&K across the entire country under the slogan “Kashmir ka sona, kona kona,” according to Kumar.
According to him, the postal service is assisting in the government’s “One District, One Product” campaign by promoting the distinctive goods made by the various UT districts.
According to Kumar, the department has expanded the Road Transport Network (RTN) on the crucial Srinagar-Jammu and Srinagar-Leh segments in order to improve the efficiency, speed, and economy of parcel services.
The group was informed that the RTN is a recently introduced mail delivery system that uses highly secure smart lock technology to transport mail in departmental vehicles through a road network.
The department has given the residents of this lovely location access to the “Shikara Post” service, which enables them to take advantage of services, particularly parcel booking, right at their doorsteps, according to the chief postmaster general.
A large number of vendors, houseboat owners, and locals were present.
