The Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi has unveiled its 5G infrastructure, which travellers will be able to utilise whenever telecom service providers roll out the technology.

Delhi’s IGI Airport becomes India’s first 5G equipped airport

Officials from Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) stated that IGI Airport is the country’s first and only “5G-ready” airport. According to the airport, the services may be used during domestic departures, foreign arrivals, multi-level parking spots, and other places.

According to DIAL, not only passengers but also visitors to GMR Aerocity can use the 5G network at GMR Square.

“Passengers will benefit from a 20-fold increase in internet speed on a 5G network as compared to the current Wi-Fi system.” This would enable faster downloads, zero buffering while streaming, flawless execution of resource-intensive apps such as 3D gaming, a better virtual reality experience, exceptionally high-density connection, and intense coverage in all locations,” DIAL explained.

In partnership with telecom service providers, the 5G network was built using the in-building solutions (IBS) technology. The trials are over, and 5G infrastructure has been installed at the MLCP entrance, within the terminal, and at Aerocity.

As per the officials, the growth in passenger traffic has increased demand for more bandwidth and faster internet. Not only will 5G technology benefit travellers, but it will also benefit DIAL and other airport authorities.

“Delhi Airport is consistently in the forefront of bringing next-generation technologies to travellers.” To improve their airport experience, we constructed our own 5G infrastructure…Passengers may enjoy uniform signal strength, seamless connectivity, low latency, and unfathomable data speed. It will result in increased efficiency and speedier decision-making for airports. As the aviation sector recovers from the effects of Covid19, it is now more vital than ever,” said DIAL CEO Mr Videh Kumar Jaipuriar.
