Delhi University is one of India’s most prestigious academic institutions, and it has recently announced the launch of a new department name the Center of Hindu Studies. The University of Delhi has announced that the Center of Hindu Studies will be launched in the 2023-24 academic session. It is obvious by its name that the Center’s focus would be on teachings and learnings related to Hindu history. It is so far known that students taking this course will learn about the Hindu civilization, its multiple dynamics, history, philosophy, and worldview.
According to official reports, Delhi University is looking to launch the course only for the Post Graduate students studying at the university. This course is specifically designed to gain knowledge about the past and the beautiful history of the Hindu civilization. The course will open individuals to a much broader part of history and will create a sense of critical thinking. The Hindu Studies course will also help students to evolve a Bharat-centric perspective beyond theoretical explanations. Central and university officials have so far praised highly this course that is only available for PG students.
Officials also had a say in this development. Officials related to the new department issue at Delhi University believe that the new Hindu Studies course will ensure the diversification of the knowledge system in line with the National Education Policy 2020. Further on, the certifications will be given to candidates based on the operational feasibility of the center. The Center of Hindu Studies is a new center, and after a close look at its operational feasibility, candidates present in the center will get their doctoral degrees, certificates, diplomas, and other program degrees. The official further added that this process will take some time to implement.
The University of Delhi offers a variety of courses to choose from. Students in their master’s or postgraduates can always take a major subject and a minor subject. The Delhi University official mentions that the university is effectively working on introducing courses based on Hindu Studies to students as a minor subject in their learning path. For example, students pursuing computer science, data analytics, artificial intelligence, graphic design, animation, management, and commerce, can choose Hindu Studies as their minor subject during their postgraduate era. Apart from the regular postgraduate course on Hindu Studies, students will also have the flexibility to choose a Hindu Studies course as a minor subject.
As we all know, language is a part of the Arts curriculum, and effectively so, the Center of Hindu Studies will be a part of the Faculty of Arts of Delhi University. It will facilitate the curriculum design, implementation of the academic programs, and the enrolment of the students for the center.
The university official also said, “The University is going to establish a Centre for Hindu Studies under the Faculty of Arts of the University which will offer a Master’s Programme in Hindu Studies.
