When and how did you start?

” I am a lighting designer and a former architect with a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture from SSAA, New Delhi and a certificate in Architectural Studies from the AA School of Architecture, London.   While studying, I always knew that I want to launch a brand of my own which is going to be a one-stop shop for architectural as well as decorative lighting. That’s how DBEL Studio came into inception last year. I am a lover of art and I love conceptualizing unique and contemporary lighting solutions for my clients (both in residential and commercial space).

Unconventional forms, clean lines, and alliance with modern influences are the hallmarks of my brand’s lighting offerings.  I strongly believe in sustainable ways of lighting with a focus on natural light. I have also participated in and curated numerous exhibitions to showcase her passion for art and design. I started DBEL Studio in 2017″, Says Ms. Dillraj L Bhatia Founder of DBEL Studio.

How did you come up with the idea? Your inspiration moment

I always have seen lighting as the highlight of any interiors. But, unfortunately, it was seen as an afterthought by many. And, I wanted to change that perception of people and as a designer wanted to spread awareness of how important lighting is to enhance any space interiors and of course the psychological and the physiological impact it has on one’s mind and body. With DBEL Studio, I aim to bring the best of any space that has been designed.

To me, decorative lighting is like an art piece that can significantly enhance the overall look of your space and add to its allure. In all my projects done so far, I have successfully proved that how dramatically a space changes with just a change in the lighting layout.

Brief about the organization and founding members

I (Dillraj L Bhatiaam a lighting designer and a former architect who loves to translate my clients’ personality into their desired space. I did my architectural studies from SSAA, New Delhi and AA School of Architecture, London. Since my company is very new, I am not sure if I would like to talk about the core team members at this stage. However, I would like to mention about my father and brother who have supported me to build this brand immensely.

Mr. MPS Bhatia, my father is the rock behind the company both personally and professionally.  He started out in the electronics business with my grandfather when he was 18. From manufacturing black and white television kits to inverters and stabilizers to venturing out to a new vertical (LED lights) alongside the other products he has come a long way. He started his company KLM Electronics Pvt Ltd. which is the parent company for the brand Tintech (our LED light range). He is also the Partner in DBEL Studio.

Yashraj Bhatia, my brother handles the production and other verticals in KLM Electronics Pvt Ltd and ensures all our material is delivered to us on time every time from the production unit.

About funding, plans on growth

I am focused on creating a brand that resonates with luxury and serves as an ultimate lighting destination nationwide.

A quote from the founder on the journey, or dealing with the challenge, or any inspiring moment.

The challenge, which we are mostly dealing with, is to carve out a place in the market with very simple yet elegant and modern fixtures. When I say the word “luxury” it brings out a different picture in the minds of every individual. For someone, it might mean a sleek brass line with linear lighting, for someone else it might mean grand crystal chandeliers with a Victorian touch. We struggle to maintain the balance between the modern designs and balancing it with the idea of luxury according to everyone’s minds.

EXCLUSIVE: Founder’s advice to budding entrepreneurs

” I am a budding entrepreneur myself. As clichéd as it might sound but what I have learned and what I follow is that “the only way to move forward is to keep moving”. When you are starting off, it looks exciting as we never know what a new day brings, it could be complaining customers or it could be the biggest project you have worked for so far. The idea is to NEVER stop. Applaud for every success for 30 seconds and move on.  Worry about every failure for 30 seconds and move on. It is a difficult step to do in the beginning but the idea is to remain detached. And, I am still struggling with that too”, says Dillraj L Bhatia.

Provide some statistics like revenues or clients acquisitions etc.

It’s too early to talk about revenue figures. We are still very new and revenues are not the first thing on our minds, rather building the brand is.
