Major stocks of Cochin Shipyard (CSL) rose by 4.40% as the company’s subsidiary, Udupi Cochin Shipyard Limited (UCSL) got a big order of ₹1,100 crore. Order Details

The CSL-affiliated company called UCSL signed a contract with Wilson ASA, one of the leading short sea fleet operators from Bergen, Norway. UCSL intends to build four 6300 TDW dry cargo vessels, designed and constructed by UCSL. Furthermore, there is a development of four similar but smaller vessels expected to be formally contracted by September 19, 2024. Conoship International of the Netherlands designs these diesel-electric vessels and are environmentally friendly. They will engage in the transportation of miscellaneous cargoes within the European coastal region. The entire fleet of the project which consists of eight vessels is expected to be delivered by September 2028.

Wilson ASA and UCSL’s Track Record

Wilson ASA is a leading short sea fleet operator in Europe transporting about 15 million tons of dry cargo in the continent. This includes about 130 vessels between 1500 and 8500 DWT (deadweight tonnage). After the acquisition of UCSL by CSL, it supplied two 62 T BP Tugs to Ocean Sparkle Limited and one 70 T BP Tug to Polestar Maritime Limited. These tugs conform to the ASTDS defined by the Indian Government under its AatmaNirbhar Bharat – Self-Reliant India mission. Besides bringing benefits to CSL’s financial condition, this order also promotes the development of the Indian shipbuilding sector. Some Achievements of Cochin Shipyard

CSL presented an Electric Hybrid 100 Pax Water Metro boat to Kochi Metro to display its environmentally friendly and innovative projects in the transportation industry. Cochin Shipyard received several refit orders, thus proving that it has developed a niche in naval vessel repair and overhaul.
