Users can now view postings on Bluesky’s decentralized social network and rival Twitter without logging in. Users still require an invitation to register and begin posting; however, they can see postings by clicking on links.

This change will also enable bloggers to embed or link to Bluesky postings. Users can share them in group or individual discussions as well.

Bluesky members can toggle on a setting under Settings > Moderation > Logged-out visibility to prevent the social network from displaying their posts for logged-out users. That restriction, though, is exclusive to Bluesky’s app and website. The business warned that other unaffiliated customers might disregard the toggle and continue to display your postings. Therefore, you must make your profile private to avoid sharing posts with a larger audience.

The company’s CEO, Jay Graber, also revealed a new butterfly emoji logo in a blog post, which takes the place of the standard logo, which is, well, a blue sky with clouds.

“At the beginning, we observed that individuals were naturally utilizing the butterfly emoji 🦋 to denote their Bluesky handles,” Graber stated. “As word got out, we embraced it and enjoyed it. The butterfly represents our goal of creating a new social media platform.

Bluesky reached two million users since the release of its iOS and Android apps this year. Additionally, the social media platform launched additional moderating capabilities in response to complaints regarding the kind of content it permitted on the site. Even though Bluesky is the sole instance using the AT Protocol, the federation is what it hopes to achieve “early next year.” This suggests that more servers and instances compatible with Bluesky and have their own set of rules may appear.
