Cycling Trails In Idaho
Ptarmigan Tunnel
To enjoy this trip, you must confirm when the tunnel doors will open ahead of your set date, as this tends to be seasonal.
The route begins at a trail that also leads to Iceberg Lake. After going about 3 miles past Ptarmigan Falls, the trail splits the hikers and bikers which leaves the much tougher uphill terrain leading to Ptarmigan Lake better suited for two-wheelers. From here, you can rest a bit while enjoying the nature around you. Then, all that is left is about 800 feet of riding to the tunnel.
Located in the Montana region of Glacier County, the historic Ptarmigan tunnel was originally built for horses and tours in the 1930s by Civilian Conversation Corp. You can take your time to enjoy riding slowly or walking through the approximately 250 feet tunnel onto the shock of red rock located on the other side. Other views to be enjoyed are of the Belly Rivers flowing into Elizabeth Lake and the Natoas Peak.
Highline Trail And The Granite Park Chalet
Located in the Montana area of Flathead County, this trail is a very popular one. This is due to the abundance of the stunning scenery that awaits every adventurer. Suffice to say something interesting awaits at every turn. Enjoy riding an ebike slowly along the Continental Divide, locally known as the Garden Wall, since the trail attracts many hikers too.
About 8 miles in, the Granite Park Trail junction leads off the right to the Highline Trail. From here, you can continue riding through the campgrounds to arrive at the Granite Park Chalet. This location and historic landmark are for your snack, as they have been in the business of providing accommodation since 1914.
The Highline Trail has all the potential to be an unforgettable one, packed with an abundance of wildlife to spot and observe. Ride out and immerse yourself in the exotic views and wildflowers, as they are abundant in the location too.
Lucky Peak
Located in the scenic city of Boise, the Lucky Peak trail entails a 4.9-mile ride over a 915 feet height. The bike trail goes up Shaw Mountain, leading to the south side of the Boise Front Range.
It is a popular migration path for owls and songbirds, and there is a survey on this carried out from time to time. There are many routes that cyclists can take to arrive at this spectacular location. Interested observers can find vegetation and recreation around nearby Squaw Creek and Warm Springs Creek.
Enjoy riding among the ruins of mining activity carried out along the slopes of the mountains, with different stages of abandoned mining operations still visible along the terrain.
Red Warrior Creek
The Red Warrior Creek is a trail located in Blaine County, Idaho. There are several quick climbs and sweet runs downhill, as long as you have enough experience to navigate the fast snake-like turns. There is a seasonal stream you can explore before heading further into the trail and enjoying the wildflowers and nature. If you love the gory, you can visit and explore a site destroyed by the Castle Rock Fire of 2007.
The sensational route ends towards Warm Springs Creek, and experienced riders will likely get wet here too. Enjoy this scenic route, and you can gently push on in assist mode if you get tired of pushing your e-bike pedals.
Challis To Stanley
If you are itching for some long-distance biking, you can enjoy the 58-mile ride between Challis and Stanley on State Highway 75. Starting in Challis, the ride heads southward on Highway 93, and in 3 miles, you get to Highway 75.
Experienced riders should expect some climbing as they ride up along the Salmon River Scenic Byway. It gets tougher as you progress, and you have to be wary of the numerous bends and steep inclines. Less experienced riders can ride with others, so they can stay motivated and observe how the more skilled riders approach each obstacle.
Apart from the scenic byways to enjoy, it is a good trail to improve your endurance if you have been practicing.
Galena To Gladiator
Also located in Blaine County, this route leads off the State Highway 75 from Galena Lodge into a beautiful landscape with plenty of room for recreational activities you can enjoy. The scenery of this area is more noticeable in the topography of the area, and beautiful memories will be created.
Just 6.2 miles, this trail is interesting because of the great views of the mountains, the water, and the vast fields. It is a short ride, but one you should prepare for to maximize the adventure.
Bogus Basin Road
The Bogus Basin Road is another ride that we recommend for riders who have been practicing endurance and competitive cycling.
At the intersection of Hill Road and Bogus Basin Road, this route starts and heads up in a pretty tough climb up the Boise Mountains. The light traffic means you can enjoy some time enjoying the breeze while you ride. You must stay wary of the many turns while enjoying the spectacular scenery with mountain-top views and beautiful cliff-tops.
On your way down, you should take some time to enjoy the views and take photos of the spectacular skyline of the Boise Valley.
