Jio Platforms opened its ₹30,213 crore initial public offering (IPO) for public subscription
SUMMARY
Jio Platforms is the digital services and technology division of Reliance Industries. The initial public offering open for public enrolment has been officially announced by Jio Platforms. The public issue, worth ₹30,213 crore, began Wednesday, and bids are expected to be received before October 23. This milestone marks one of the largest public offerings in the history of Indian capital markets and is a significant milestone in the standalone public listing of the mammoth digital business ecosystem of Reliance Industries.
Strong anchor investor demand and share structure
The firm has priced its public issue at ₹1,065 to ₹1,119 per equity share. The entire IPO sale is a new allotment of 27 crore equity shares, with no OFS equity shares being issued as part of the IPO.
In this setup, a portion of equity shares valued up to ₹500 crore has been reserved for eligible employees and a specific category of ₹2,500 crore shares has been earmarked for Reliance Industries’ shareholder base.
On October 19, Jio Platforms raised ₹8,110 crore from 212 anchor investors ahead of its public opening. The anchor book saw tremendous interest, with bids totaling nearly ₹2.5 lakh crore, which is more than 30 times the total committed by these institutional investors for the original anchor book.
Domestic and international mutual funds and insurance companies participated extensively, while major international asset managers including BlackRock, Capital Group, Fidelity Investments and T. Rowe Price were prominently represented.
Capital allocation and business scale
Jio Platforms intends to use ₹27,500 crore out of the proceeds of the public issue to repay a portion of the outstanding borrowings taken by its core operating subsidiary, Reliance Jio Infocomm. The rest of the proceeds from the IPO will be used for general corporate spending to help bolster the company’s capital structure as it invests in continued technological development.
Jio Platforms Ltd comprises the various telecom and digital operations that fall under the umbrella of Reliance Industries Ltd, largely centered around Reliance Jio Infocomm, which provides mobile connectivity, ultra-fast fixed broadband, and different digital services.
The telecom company has managed to maintain a subscriber base of 533.3 million users as of June 2026, establishing itself as one of the major players in the industry. It has been consistently improving its strengths in the realms of 5G networks, digital applications, and artificial intelligence.
Additionally, the public offering takes place after Jio Platforms received historic equity investments from global technology firms like Meta and Google in 2020, along with a number of institutional private equity firms. After the subscription process, the equity shares were officially listed on the NSE and BSE on October 28 at Jio Platforms.
Conclusion
The listing of the ₹30,213 crore IPO by Jio Platforms marks a defining moment in India’s technology and telecom industry. Given the massive institutional participation in the anchor portion of the offering, along with allocation of shares for employees and current investors, the IPO reflects the huge level of faith in the digital arm of Reliance Industries. With a clear strategy to allocate the funds raised through this IPO to pay off the debt of Reliance Jio Infocomm as well as expand into 5G and artificial intelligence, Jio Platforms is ready to make its mark on the stock market.
