ByteAsk $1 Million Pre-Seed Funding

SUMMARY

ByteAsk is an AI coding agent startup that focuses exclusively on C and C++ codebases. ByteAsk has successfully raised $1 million in its pre-seed funding round. Y Combinator and Entrepreneur First led the funding round. The round saw additional participation coming from a group of angel investors. ByteAsk was established in 2026 by its founders, Anirudha Kulkarni and Pratyush Saini. The two co-founders of ByteAsk earlier co-founded and sold a legal AI startup called LawSutra AI to online legal research platform Manupatra.

Capital allocation and target markets

The startup is dedicated to meeting the distinct needs and constraints of current AI coding systems within the C and C++ programming environment. This focus is especially for those systems, where reliability, performance, and correctness are major concerns.

ByteAsk’s platform is being designed with a focus on engineers who are developing mission-critical applications for multiple key industries. They include defence, aerospace, robotics, high-frequency trading, finance, embedded systems, automotive, and semiconductors.

The investment proceeds from this pre-seed round will be used for several critical strategic growth areas. ByteAsk intends to use the $1 million to help with the current product development and infrastructure advancement plans.

The startup will invest its resources into manpower hiring for engineering and research teams, GPU compute infrastructure, and training data acquisition. ByteAsk plans to develop enterprise-class security and privacy functions, and on-premises infrastructure specifically designed for its customers.

For market access, ByteAsk will first address large enterprises in the high-frequency trading, automotive and embedded systems markets, and then move into adjacent markets.

To help visualise the scale of the sector, ByteAsk referenced industry estimates of total annual engineering salary spend being around $400 billion in the case of C++. Agentic coding is a space with potential worth about $10 billion but is still growing fast, said the company.

Performance tests and future roadmap

The platform is reportedly used by engineers about six times as much a day as a similar open-source coding agent, in terms of product usage. Lastly, the startup observed that its weekly active users have been doubling week by week.

Performance measured with real firmware engineering tickets on internal benchmarks highlights key results for ByteAsk. The small model eliminated 89% of the tickets, according to the startup, due to its proprietary grounding environment. By comparison, the highest-performing frontier model without this grounding environment solved 61% of the same tickets.

ByteAsk is actively developing a post-training method specifically for the C++ language. The startup plans to bring a new language model designed specifically for C++ into the market within 6 to 8 months as part of its future product roadmap.

Conclusion

The $1 million pre-seed investment from Y Combinator and Entrepreneur First showcases a tendency to invest in niche AI solutions for legacy and mission-critical software languages. Targeting code-based developers who write in C and C++, ByteAsk is designed to address an engineering sector with an estimated $2 trillion spend worldwide, including defence, high-frequency trading, and automotive sectors. The funding will enable ByteAsk to continue to implement its roadmap in the next 6-8 months with infrastructure, hiring, GPU compute, and specialized model development to broaden its market presence in enterprise applications.
