The Maharashtra government has sanctioned ₹ 116 crores for the laying down of cyber security and threat analysis digital center. This is a part of ₹837 crore plan that was envisaged to improve the state’s readiness to address cyber threats and safeguard digital resources. 

Cybersecurity Plan

The sanctioned ₹116 crores would be used to procure and deploy the system integration hardware required for the cybersecurity center. This center is being established by a consortium consisting of L&T Technology Services and KPMG and will implement advanced AI and machine learning-based technologies to identify and prevent cyber vulnerabilities.

It is expected that the cybersecurity plan will be executed in stages over approximately five years and six months. Through time, it is expected that the project will improve the state’s cybersecurity capabilities at a rapid pace. The creation of the command and control center will also be useful in dealing with existing threats and creating defenses for future threats concerning the state in the cyberspace domain. 

Objectives of the Cybersecurity Plan

The main goal of cybersecurity plan is to provide a strong system to address the increased number of cybercrimes in the state. The center will be provided with state-of-the-art tools to identify deep fakes, conduct social media investigations, and understand the threat landscape in real time. This will help the Cyber Police of Maharashtra to effectively tackle cyber crimes and cyber disasters.

The center will apply AI and machine learning to evaluate data, establish weaknesses, and produce susceptibilities for cyber offenses. Sophisticated technology shall be employed to facilitate digital investigation and subsequently address cyber-related offenses. This center will be tasked with the responsibility of tracking social media to look for insecurity threats to help make the citizen’s social media usage safer. Police officers and staff shall undergo training concerning international best practices in cybersecurity, thus improving their capacity to combat complex cyber threats.
