Match Group, which created well-known dating apps like Tinder and OkCupid, is very serious about collaborating with AI.
After testing a few AI-powered Tinder features, Match Group is advancing the situation by appointing Mark Kantor, a former Zynga head of growth, as vice president of innovation. Modern technology will be incorporated into Match Group’s apps by a small team of engineers and designers working under the guidance of Kantor, who co-founded businesses including Yellowbrick and Graffiti.
Match is already developing a few AI technologies. Recently, Tinder said it would test AI photo selection, which will look through users’ photo albums and select the pictures that will perform the best on the app. Tinder CPO Mark Van Ryswyk suggested that users might construct their dating bios using generative AI at last month’s Reuters event. Despite how revolting this notion may sound, some people enjoy it, as evidenced by the fact that people are posting wedding vows on ChatGPT.
AI-powered dating could be frightening for clients who want the most authentic online dating experiences imaginable. But Match Group is trying to keep its ideas from seeming unduly phony.
CEO Bernard Kim said on the most recent Match Group earnings call, “It’s critical that our features and tools improve trust, authenticity, and respect and, ultimately, lead to better matches and dates in real life.” “By the end of the year, we expect to have launched several initiatives that will use generative AI to eliminate awkwardness, make dating more rewarding, and surprise and delight users, all in a way that focuses on authenticity and maintains the highest ethical and privacy standards,” the company said in a statement.
