30 March 2023, Bangalore, India
The Government of India made it compulsory to link PAN card numbers with each individual’s Aadhar number. Citizens have a deadline of 31st March to link their PAN number with their Aadhar number. However, a huge issue has been revolving around this situation. People are trying to check their link status in the portal made especially for that purpose by the government. As the deadline nears, people are logging in to check their status, and many have found problems with the website.
Netizens have taken to social media to show the issues they are facing on the portal. Lots of people have been seeing a “service unavailable” message on the portal. It has led to complete chaos, and people are showing their trouble via different social media platforms, and the chosen one is Twitter.
On March 9, the Income Tax Department issued a notice on the platform about the deadline date and asked netizens to check their PAN – Aadhar link status. To this notice, many replied with the problem they have been facing while logging in to the site. It led to many people asking for an extension on the deadline date. Adhering to the situation, the government decided to extend the deadline and made it June 30th, 2023. It came just when the original deadline was approaching. The government wants to give more time to the taxpayers and hence has come up with this decision.
The question is, for whom it is compulsory to link PAN-Aadhar, and for whom it is not? It is simple to understand.
Compulsory –

Not compulsory –
PAN – Aadhat card linkage is not compulsory for people residing in Assam, Jammu and Kashmir, and Meghalaya. A non-resident is also not obliged to link his/her PAN and Aadhar number if they have any. However, if anyone wishes to link their PAN and Aadhar number can do it by paying the registered fine amount.
To check the PAN – Aadhar status, an individual has to –
