The Government of India’s Ministry of Defence has approved the establishment of a new research centre at the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee). The facility at IIT Roorkee will be named as the ‘DRDO Industry Academia-Centre of Excellence’ (DIA-CoE).
With the creation of the Research Centre, IIT Roorkee would have better opportunities and pathways to address critical and future armed forces defence technology requirements. The DRDO, Government of India, would provide financial assistance to the Facility.
The DIA-CoE IITR will facilitate and carry out transdisciplinary directed fundamental and applied research in mutually agreed research verticals by the DRDO and IITR. The Centre of Excellence (CoE) will also work with academic researchers and faculty at IIT Roorkee, as well as startups, enterprises, and other institutes across the country, to facilitate and develop advanced defence technology research.
Smart infrastructure and fortified structures for defence applications, energy storage devices, landslide, snow, and avalanche investigations, pulsed laser and speciality fibre, shock and detonics are some of the Centre’s key study areas. thermal administration
